Creating Contrast

• Value and Color

• Large and small: placing mass in space
• Shapes and lines
• Angles and diagonals
• Dimension: expand the space
• Mood and emotions

How size affects contrast
  • Larger objects are seen first...

  • but smaller objects can draw attention if surrounded by space, or in comparison to a larger object, again, by setting up contrast.

  • a very effective technique to draw interest is to make small objects appear large, or vice-versa. Show us the world in a new way...

  • Mediocre design often fails to exploit relative scale differences. Everything is the same size.
